How to Maintain Your ZF TRAXON Automated Transmission – The DIUK Guide

The ZF TRAXON system is one of the most advanced automated manual transmissions (AMT)
in the world.
It offers a unique combination of efficiency, reliability, and improved fuel economy- and proves its performance on the road, thousands of times a day.

However, like any advanced drivetrain system, it requires the right usage and maintenance to preserve optimal performance and extend the life of its key components– the gearbox, clutch, shift sensors, and electronic control units.

Eli Tzaroya, Head of Production at DIUK, has gathered the golden rules for keeping your TRAXON system in perfect working condition:

  1. Come to a full stop before shifting gears
When switching between Neutral and Drive (or vice versa), the vehicle must come to a complete stop.Shifting while in motion puts unnecessary load on the clutch and gear wheels.
  2. Don’t press the gas pedal while starting
With robotic gear systems, ignition must occur under zero load. Pressing the accelerator during startup may interfere with calibration and cause system malfunctions.
  3. Use the hill-start and maneuvering functions correctly
Let the assist systems do their job. “Playing” with the clutch or pressing too much gas can cause overheating and accelerated wear.
  4. Avoid rocking the vehicle back and forth to get unstuck
This creates forces that the transmission wasn’t designed to handle- potentially damaging the clutch and shift actuators.
  5. Perform regular software updates
ZF periodically releases new software versions that improve gear shifting, fuel efficiency, and clutch wear management. Updates should only be performed by an authorized ZF representative.
  6. Keep up with transmission oil service intervals
    High-quality transmission oil is critical.
Using non- approved oil or delaying service can cause control unit malfunctions and increased wear.
  7. Maintain electrical and air systems properly
Check your battery voltage, sensor cleanliness, and compressed air quality. Contaminated or humid air can damage actuator pistons and solenoid blocks.
By following these simple rules, you’ll ensure a reliable, efficient, and smooth-running powertrain for years to come.

But if a fault does occur- DIUK is Israel’s leading center for the professional overhaul and repair of transmissions, engines, and powertrain components- built to OEM standards and powered by advanced technology.
